Exchange Email Encryption

data-content-type=""

All Exchange messages are encrypted in transit. This page will cover end-to-end encryption options through Office 365 Message Encryption that is built into Outlook clients.

Directions for encrypting a message:

  1. Begin composing an email
  2. Select encrypt
    1. On Windows: Select Options, then Encrypt.
    2. On Mac: You may have to click the three eclipses on your tool bar and add the Encryption option. Then, select Encryption.
  3. Decide which type of encryption option you’d like. We recommend choosing “BYU Office 365 - Confidential” for most purposes.

When a recipient receives a message, they may have to open the message in a browser. If they try to read the message from gmail.com, they will have to enter a one-time passcode sent to their gmail to view the message online.
